New Energy Minister
The UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has been abolished and its activities transferred to the newly created Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) department. Formation of BEIS was announced on 14 July following the appointment of Theresa May as the new UK Prime Minister.
Greg Clark has been named as energy minister in a newly restructured department of the UK government. Clark, who was shadow energy minister in 2008-2010 when his Conservative party was in opposition, is now the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has been subsumed into the business department.
UK renewables trade body, RenewableUK CEO and former DECC civil servant, Hugh McNeal said: "We're looking forward to working supportively with Mr Clark in his new role, as we represent industries that can attract inward investment in the UK, and onshore wind offers the cheapest source of new power for Britain.
